Rush in rehab

I wrote about today's events at blogcritics.
Since I wrote the post, Salon has a posted a good piece. It was interesting that the tv coverage featured video from the webcast of Rush's announcement.
This passage from the Miami Herald is interesting:
Allan Mayer, a spokesman for Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates the
show, said it was not in danger [no duh]...Mayer said Premiere hadn't known about Limbaugh's previous stays at rehab
centers -- or, indeed, anything about his drug habit.''The revelations came as much of a surprise to Premiere as to everyone
else,'' he said.
It also repeats a quote from Limbaugh other articles have cited, but
someone on blogcritics who heard the show said he was mocking cigarette taxes, not
advocating drug decriminalization (just reading transcripts can be misleading since he sometimes will say absurd things to make a point):
But in a 1998 radio broadcast, he changed tacks.''It seems to me that what is missing in the drug fight is legalization,''
he told a caller. ``If we want to go after drugs with the same fervor and
intensity with which we go after cigarettes, let's legalize drugs . . . get
control of the price and generate tax revenue from it. Raise the price sky-
high and fund all sorts of other wonderful social programs.''

- Newsweek cover story
- NY Daily News (they really should have links to their earlier coverage since they broke it in the mainstream press)
- NY Times
